Priests available for confessions around the clock

LINCOLN (SNR) – The second “24 Hours for the Lord” will be held at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln, beginning Friday, March 4 at 6 p.m. and ending Saturday, March 5 at 6 p.m.

Diocesan priests have volunteered in one-hour shifts to be available to hear confessions for 24 hours straight. Eucharistic exposition will also be held during the 24 hours.

The “24 Hours” initiative is being implemented in every diocese around the world, at the instruction of Pope Francis.

In “Misericordiae Vultus,” in preparation for the Year of Mercy, he wrote, “So many people, including young people, are returning to the Sacrament of Reconciliation; through this experience they are rediscovering a path back to the Lord, living a moment of intense prayer and finding meaning in their lives. Let us place the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the centre once more in such a way that it will enable people to touch the grandeur of God’s mercy with their own hands. For every penitent, it will be a source of true interior peace.”

The first “24 Hours” event was held at the Cathedral last year.
